2 Samuel 8:13-14
"So David became very famous. After his return he destroyed eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt. He placed army garrisons throughout Edom, and all the Edomites became David's subjects." (NIV)
Some historians have claimed that Bible's report of David conquering the Edomites (2 Samuel 8:13-14) could not be true because the Edomites did not exist in the 10th century BC. Their opinion was that the Edomites did not exist until the 8th century, and thus the Bible must be taking events from the 8th century and retrojected them back to the time of David in the 10th century so as to make David more heroic.
However, once again the Bible has been proven to be true, and man's wisdom false.
Archaeologists investigating Khirbat en-Hahas in Jordan, about 30 miles south of the Dead Sea, have found an ancient Edomite settlement from the 11th century B.C. They were able to use Carbon-14 dating of artifacts from an Edomite copper smelting site to establish the dates. A monumental Edomite fortress, dating to the 10th century BC, has also been found at the site. The 10th century is the time of David's war with the Edomites.
So once again archaeology has supported Biblical history, as archaeology has done 100% of the time. Archaeology has never found anything that contradicts the historical record of the Bible. This is not true with other religious books. History as reported by the Quran is filled with errors. History reported by the Book of Mormon has absolutely no archaeological support and the Mormon's Book of Abraham has been proven to be totally false. (The Mormon church as the original Egyptian scroll this book was "translated" from--and what is on the scroll is nothing like what Joseph Smith said was on the scroll.) Only the Bible continues to be proven true by archaeology (and science, and astronomy, and biology, etc. etc.), just as we would expect with the true word of God.
