Love, Christianity, Jesus and Salvation

It seems like Christianity and Jesus are increasingly under attack. What's going on? What we'll be looking at is what happens when Christians use human wisdom to interpret the Bible, twisting scripture away from its intended message. This blog is dedicated to using Scripture itself to interpret and help us understand Scripture. You are welcome to add your comments and thoughts. Other viewpoints are welcome. Disagreements are welcome.

Isaiah 43:24

"Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, and the one who formed you from the womb, I, the LORD, am the maker of all things, stretching out the heavens by Myself and spreading out the earth all alone."

- Bible translation note: when the word "LORD" is used in all capital letters, it is a translation of God's formal name Yehovah.

There are many important points to notice about this verse. So many that a book could be written about just this one verse. I'll point out just a few:

- God created everything. He (Yehovah - the LORD), is the maker of all things.

- Just in case we didn't understand what He just said, He makes it clear by saying He (Yehovah, the LORD) stretched out the heavens by Himself.

- Notice also that He identifies Himself twice by name. Once at the beginning "Thus says the LORD" (Yehovah) and then again in the middle of this verse. God is being sure that we understand He is talking about Himself. There is no doubt, this is God talking about Himself.

- Notice that He mentions two things that He created, the heavens and the earth. This takes us directly back to Genesis 1:1 in which God says He created the heavens and the earth.

This also brings us to Genesis 2:4, which also says the LORD God made the heavens and the earth. These verses all tied together. They are talking about the same Divine Being, God. So in Isaiah 43:24 God is telling us in at least four different ways that He is talking about Himself--the creator of the heavens and the earth. He is going to a lot of extra effort to be sure we understand this.

- This verse also says He is the one who made you in your mother's womb. This has interesting implications for abortion, a topic we'll get into later.

- God says that He is "Your Redeemer". God (the one God who created the heavens and he earth) says He is your Redeemer (with the word "Redeemer capitalized). Isn't that who Jesus Christ is? Yes!

God tells us in other places He is our redeemer, such as Psalm 19:14 - "O LORD, my rock and my redeemer."

The Bible tells us: God is our redeemer / Jesus is our redeemer.
